About Zimali

 

Zimali Flamenco are a spanish music live act available for hire in and around East Anglia in the UK, formed by guitarist Allan Ward and singer Amaia.

Zimali performances offer a genuine flamenco experience, music can range from the most traditional cante jondo to original reworkings of modern flamenco songs and dances.

The group play in many different formats, and are able to perform as a full company including dancers and percussionists, down to a duo or solo musician.

In the last few years Zimali have played many shows throughout the region, including The Theatre Royal, The Madder Market Theatre, and The Play House in Norwich. The Fisher Theatre and Downing College Cambridge, and accompanying Opera al Fresco events.


 

About Amaia

Amaia was born on the coastline near Bilbao, Spain, to a very musical family and grew up in a rich and varied musical environment. Amaia sang traditional and folk music in choirs and fiestas from an early age, and has a long standing passion for flamenco, Latin and jazz. Her voice is described as soulful and haunting, powerful and passionate. Combined with her excellent range and control Amaia adds a unique flavour to all Zimali performances. She cites amongst her influences singers such as Camarón, Estrella Morente, Mayte Martin, and José Mercé. Amaia brings her warm and amicable personality into Zimali and enjoys engaging with her audience.


 

About Allan

Allan has been playing flamenco for over 30 years and has travelled the world with his guitar. Originally a classically trained musician, he received a teaching diploma (ALCM from the London College of Music) before his love of flamenco took him to spain to study guitar under such names as Manolo Sanlúcar, and Gerardo Núñez. Allan has played for hundreds of flamenco shows, his stage credits include performances at the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall on London's Southbank, the Barbican Centre Theatre, and the Hampstead Theatre. He has also appeared in numerous televised productions for indepedent channels and for the BBC. Allan has always been an active part of the flamenco scene, and is able to bring together the right musicians and dancers for any Zimali performance.
